Lucy Turns Pages: TBR Update!

TBR Update!

Hi everyone! I've been aiming to get back into reading after a bit of a slump. I'm currently reading books on my shelves, as well as books from the library. I thought that I would make an updated TBR list of all of the books that I currently own and have not read. Some of these I feel that I may be no longer interested in but I am going to be trying chapters. I am hoping to find some great reads! 1. Ooh, some of my favourite books are on here - The Book Thief, The Bone Season, A Discovery of Witches, and A Darker Shade of Magic. They can all be a little difficult to get into at first but I think they're worth it! I also really enjoyed Wolf by Wolf when I read it a few years ago.

The one on here I've struggled with a little is Queen of the Tearling. I DNFed it a couple of years ago, not because I didn't like it, but that I expected something more fantastical from it which wasn't the case at all. I do still have it though so maybe I'll get round to re-reading it at some point and hopefully liking it.

Also, I wish I had an unread-books list as short as yours. I was writing all mine down in my new book/reading journal a few days ago and they must fill about 8 or so pages. It's great, but also not great because I don't know when I'm going to read them all and I worry about leaving them unread for so long that I lose interest in some of them.

    1. I've read a little of A Darker Shade of Magic in the past intending to go back to it. I recently picked up Vengeful by the same author and I really didn't like it even though I loved Vicious and City of Ghosts, I am still apprehensive about ADSOM. It's great to hear some good things about some of these books!

It's always worth a try! My list was perhaps double what it is now but I had a few phases where I was really tough with my TBR, I tried chapters and DNFed a lot because there had been books on my shelves for years and they just weren't for me now. I still find this amount overwhelming but I am slowly getting through them.

    2. I totally understand that, and I know a lot of people have said the same about ADSOM. Regarding Vengeful, I actually DNFed it but I think it was more to do with the fact I wasn't in the mood to read it, rather than actually disliking it. Saying that, I wasn't finding it as thrilling as Vicious though, which I love! I just now need to try The Dark Vault, The Near Witch and Tunnel of Bones by VE Schwab and then I've nearly read all her books.

I think that is the best thing to do. My problem is that I'm a total mood reader and even though I have these unread books, I have phases of wanting to re-read the same books over and over again. I've always done it but it is worse now I own more books than I ever did as a kid or teen.

    3. I will give it another go and see, hopefully I will enjoy it! Hmm, I wouldn't say rereading is a bad thing if it's something that you enjoy doing. If you pick up some new books inbetween rereads you will still be making progress with your TBR!

    4. Yeah, I think I just have to stagger the re-reads. I love re-reading and I get a lot out of it with certain books (classics and fantasies in particular) but they can take over.

    5. A balance might be a good idea then so that you enjoy reading but don't feel bad about not reading new things?

    6. Definitely, so much so I'm thinking about having them as my audiobooks which I tend to listen to when I'm crocheting or knitting so I can still get some reading in. I tried it today but I couldn't concentrate on my choice of audiobook. However, if it's a re-read, then it doesn't really matter if I tune out or not. I also need to get back into the habit of having an allotted reading time in the evenings before bed. I've been tending to flick on Netflix instead but picking up an actual book will be better.

    7. That sounds like a good idea! I get distracted with watching things too.
